Every review states its type: editorial research, ingredient analysis, retailer-data summary or comparison. The type is shown on the page so you always know what the conclusion is based on.
How we score
Products are scored out of 100 across formula suitability, evidence, barrier and sensitivity, UK value, transparency, packaging and stability, routine compatibility and retail reliability. Missing evidence lowers certainty rather than inventing a score — the full weighting is in our review methodology.

How to read a review
Reviews here are research-led rather than experiential. That distinction matters: a review that has not involved hands-on use cannot honestly describe how a product felt, so instead it examines what the formulation contains, what the evidence behind those ingredients supports, who the formula is likely to suit and where the uncertainty sits. Each review carries a label naming its type, so the basis of the conclusion is never left to inference.
The review types
- Editorial research:
- Assessment built from disclosed formulation data, published literature and retailer information.
- Ingredient analysis:
- A close read of the INCI list — what is doing the work, what is present at token levels, and what the order implies.
- Comparison:
- Two or more products or actives set against each other on the same criteria.
- Retailer-data summary:
- Availability and pricing context drawn from listings, with the date each was last checked.
- Independently tested:
- Used only where hands-on testing genuinely took place. Absence of this label means no testing is being claimed.
What the score means
- Scores are out of 100 across independent components including formula suitability, evidence, barrier and sensitivity risk, UK value, transparency, packaging, routine compatibility and retail reliability.
- Missing evidence lowers confidence rather than being filled in with an assumed figure.
- Cosmetic results are formulation-dependent and vary between people; a score is a guide to suitability, not a promise of outcome.
