Each comparison sets out what the options actually do differently, who each one suits and where the published evidence stops. We do not declare a single winner when the honest answer depends on skin type or routine.

How to read a comparison
A comparison is useful when two reasonable options do genuinely different things and the right choice depends on your skin rather than on a ranking. These pages set out the mechanism behind each option, the strength of the evidence for it, the tolerability trade-off and the practical routine consequences. Where the honest conclusion is 'it depends', we say so and explain what it depends on rather than manufacturing a winner.
What each comparison examines
- Mechanism:
- What each option is understood to do in the skin, stated at the level the research supports.
- Evidence strength:
- Whether the support is in vivo human studies, in vitro work, or manufacturer material — and how much weight that deserves.
- Irritation and barrier risk:
- Who typically tolerates each option, and the signs you have introduced it too quickly.
- Routine compatibility:
- What each option should and should not be layered with, and whether it belongs in a morning or evening routine.
- UK availability:
- Whether the products are reliably purchasable in the UK, and where the listing was last checked.
